~Attractions in Dallas, Texas~

D/FW Attractions:

The Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex area is filled with things to do, see, and eat. While it would be impossible to make an exhaustive list, we want to provide you with suggestions of things to do in this area.

State Fair of Texas:

The State Fair is an event that happens once per year. Every state in the US has a state fair, but none are as well known as Texas'. Go take your picture with Big Tex, enjoy the carnival and live animal shows, and eat some of the "fair food" that the State Fair is known for! Annually, there is a contest where vendors at the show compete for the best fair food, and as a result of this, we tried Fried Oreos, Fried Butter, and even Fried Margaritas! Uncle Fletcher's corn dogs are the most popular food of the fair, and a "must try." Insiders tip: for food and rides at the Fair, you'll need to purchase tickets to use as payment. You'll find ticket stands at several locations within the fair.

Fort Worth Stockyards:

Fort Worth is a town adjacent to Dallas that is known for its celebration of western heritage. Daily, there are two cattle drives down the brick streets of the stockyards. Every Friday and Saturday night, you can see a live rodeo, and in the afternoons, Pawnee Bill's Wild West Show is live. There are also several saloons and dance halls - and the Stockyards are the home of Billy Bob's Texas, the World's Largest Honky Tonk. Head to Billy Bobs for live music, pool playing, dance lessons, and great people-watching. Insiders tip: while you're in Fort Worth, visit Joe T. Garcia's Mexican Restaurant. Known for its limited menu, patio seating, cash-only payment, and pitchers of margaritas, Joe T's is a must-do Fort Worth attraction. You could also have a meal at the Reata Restaurant, a upscale Texas restaurant with unique and flavorful meals and a great 2nd story patio.

Activities with kids:

If you're visiting with kids, both Dallas and Fort Worth offer fantastic zoos. Dallas also has a renowned aquarium, located near downtown.

Shooting-related activities:

We hope that you'll join us Thursday evening for a reception at the Beretta Gallery, where you'll get to experience it after-hours while sipping wine with our friends from the Higgins Branchini Shooting Foundation. Dallas also has several public gun ranges, where you can rent guns and spend time trying them out. The Dallas area is the home of two Cabela's stores and a Bass Pro Shop, which will provide hours of shopping experience.

Restaurants galore:

Dallas has no shortage of great restaurants.
Near the gun club, visit La Hacienda Ranch for great fajitas, enchiladas, and margaritas. La Hacienda Ranch's owners claim to have invented the frozen margarita machine. If you're in the mood for BBQ, visit Hard 8 BBQ for its famous spread, which includes brisket, ribeyes, sausage, pork, and a number of other BBQ'ed delicacies. Stampede 66 is also a great stop.
If you're in a hurry, stop by Whataburger, a Texas-based burger chain with a cult-like following. Chick-fil-a is also a well-known fast food restaurant, known for their chicken sandwiches and waffle fries. Beware though, Chick-fil-a is closed on Sundays.
If you want one of the best steaks in Dallas (and priced accordingly), visit Pappas Bros.  They have a sister restaurant called Pappasitos (Mexican food) and another called Pappadeaux (seafood) near the steakhouse, and all are excellent.   Downtown in the city of Roanoke also has plenty of restaurants, including Babe's Chicken Dinner house, a family-style chicken restaurant.

NorthPark Center, the Shops at Legacy,  the Galleria, and Stonebriar Center are all shopping areas within DFW.

AT&T Stadium is a huge complex where the Dallas Cowboys play (American) football.  It is available for tours.  The Gaylord Texan is a hotel/convention center that includes restaurants and activities.  Great Wolf Lodge is an indoor water park and hotel near the gun club, in Grapevine.  For any of you who like to golf, Cowboys Golf Club is close by and great.
