Michael Higgens

  • • Hometown: Des Moines, Iowa (Grew up at New Pioneer Gun Club in Waukee)
  • • Gun: 1964 Browning Broadway Lightning grade
  • (have been shooting this gun since '72 when I bought it used!)
  • • Preferred Shells: RIO, Fiocchi and Kent

In the 1970s-80s, Mike primarily shot Bunker Trap and tried out for the  1976, '80, '84 Olympic Teams.
He first discovered Helice when he moved to Dallas from St Louis in 1993, he was introcuced to Helice by Mike Harris. He made the US team for the Helice World Championships in the late 90's and through 2001, and is now, lucky for us, the President of the United States Helice Associationsince since 2012!
Mike has too many accomplisments to mention. But mostly we know him to be a great take charge leader, handles every situation with a calm tactful approach, always ready with a smile and some quick wit. We are lucky to have this man as our President and friend.

I'm proud of our efforts to grow the Helice sport and field teams that have performed so well the last few years. I'm most proud of the Higgins Branchini Shooting Foundation (founded in 2013 with wife, Melinda), which supports collegiate shotgun sports competitors. To date, we've supported over 40 collegiate competitors ! several of whom have made US Teams (including Helice) or won collegiate championships. Our HBSF Board includes Mimi Wilfong (another great Helice competitor and USHA Board member). Collectively, everyone on our Board works hard to make a major contribution to the shooting sports.
